INTRODUCING

TELL US ABOUT YOUR JOURNEY AT THE PERTH MINT
Before I began my 30-plus year tenure, I had entered a jewellery design competition hosted by the Mint and won the Student Award. Over the years, I have done everything from burnishing, annealing and pressing to die polishing, pad printing, gem setting, 3D engraving, laser finishing and training. I was also a part of the team to prepare the One Tonne Gold Coin currently on display in our Gold Exhibition.
DESCRIBE A DAY IN YOUR ROLE
On a typical day, I will be checking any dies that have been laser finished overnight. Then, I will begin laser finishing dies before preparing any new projects. Throughtout the day, I will also be training others in this craft and trialling exciting Research and Development projects.
WHAT IS THE MOST CHALLENGING PART OF YOUR ROLE?
Working out the best method for laser cutting and finishing new designs. There is a fair amount of trial and error( and patience) to try to achieve the Coin Designer’ s vision. A couple of examples are the florals on the Diwali 2024 1oz Silver Gilded Coin and the reflective scales on the Dragon 2025 1oz Silver Proof Rectangular Coin.
