INTRODUCING

Kevin Bynder

Artist
WHAT MOTIVATED YOU TO BECOME AN ARTIST ?
I loved drawing when I was little . As time went on , I listened to a lot of stories about my people ’ s culture . I decided to pursue art as a way to educate others about our traditions . Developing my skills took a lot of long hours and practice , and a lot of mistakes , but being able to use art to educate people is a huge thing for me .
HOW DID YOU GET INVOLVED WITH THE PERTH MINT ?
They asked me to accompany them on their reconciliation journey . I felt they were genuine about wanting to do more for Indigenous people . They commissioned a mural called Keyiny Moort ( One Family ) for their refinery . I also painted Kwobidak Boodja ( Pretty Country ) for a large mosaic symbolising the connection of Traditional Owners to the land on which the Mint is built .
TELL US ABOUT YOUR COIN DESIGNS
My coin designs are inspired by the natural environment and the knowledge of my people who have lived on Nyoongar country for tens of thousands of years .
