A piece of time to keep
“ There ’ s something sort of magical about the hourglass … and the concept of time . It was such a conceptual design — it was a blank slate when we started . You do some research and see where your drawing takes you .”
— Jennifer McKenna , designer at The Perth Mint
What would surround the hourglass insert in this new special coin ? Only time would tell . Day into night , Jennifer contemplated away .
But in the end , she only had to look to the sky . Throughout history , the sun , moon , and stars were time ’ s constant . They would make the perfect accompaniment to the tiny timekeeper .
Jen sought inspiration everywhere — from the traditional art of tarot cards and star charts to century-old fine art . Particularly inspired by Alphonse Mucha and Art Noveau , she wrapped her astronomical design in an intricate pattern of ribbons , tying this galaxy together .
The coin ’ s antiqued finish implores collectors to enjoy its wonders up close — to hold the passage of time in the palm of their hand .
A coin crafted to reflect upon . A coin crafted to collect .
