Babies of the zodiac
Irresistably adorable, this coin tells the story of The Great Race with 12 baby animals of the lunar calendar on 3oz of pure silver— playful pups, cheerful chicks, and cute cubs and kittens just to name a few!
Long ago in ancient China, the Jade Emperor called for a Great Race to decide the order of the years of the zodiac. The path was no easy one, as each contestant must cross a wide, rushing river. The names of the first 12 animals across were given to each year in the zodiac. And so began the legend of the Chinese zodiac, a tradition that has been followed for over 2,000 years.
The coin’ s coloured reverse portrays the 12 baby animals of the lunar calendar: the mouse, ox, tiger, rabbit, dragon, snake, horse, goat, monkey, rooster, dog, and pig. Each adorable animal appears against a background of stylised clouds, a river and a temple. The imagery surrounds a bagua, a motif incorporating eight Taoist trigrams representing the yin and yang, said to be present in all things. It also includes a taijitu, representing the unity and interdependence of opposing forces.
Celebrating every animal in the Chinese zodiac, this charming coin is an auspicious collectible that ' s perfect for gifting and collecting alike.
