The Ulysses butterfly( Papilio ulysses, also known as the blue emperor or blue mountain swallowtail) is a striking swallowtail species renowned for its vivid electric-blue wings, making it one of the most iconic butterflies of Australia and nearby regions. Its wingspan typically reaches about 14cm, with the upper wings shimmering in iridescent blue while the underside remains a more muted brown, providing camouflage when at rest. The dazzling colouration comes from microscopic scales that reflect light, creating its signature glow.
