Paying tribute to Australia’ s flying species, the 2oz gold coin portrays representations( clockwise from top) of an Australian wedge-tailed eagle, a kookaburra, a splendid fairy wren, a blue-banded bee, a birdwing butterfly, a sugar glider, a sulphurcrested cockatoo, and a willie wagtail. The background is composed of native flora motifs.
The centre of the design features an insert of blue lepidolite. A lithium bearing mineral found in a variety of colours, the bluecoloured variant comes exclusively from the Gascoyne region of Western Australia.
