Tour Guide and Gold Pourer
TELL US ABOUT YOUR JOURNEY AT THE PERTH MINT
I have worked at The Perth Mint as a Tour Guide and Gold Pourer for two years and enjoy it thoroughly. Growing up in Kalgoorlie, I was surrounded by gold history, and had previously worked at the Museum of the Goldfields in Kalgoorlie. Working here has expanded my knowledge, connecting past experiences with new learning.
DESCRIBE A DAY IN YOUR ROLE
It typically involves delivering an hour-long verbal spiel from memory about gold and the Mint’ s history to visitors, as well as a live gold pour demonstration. I also personalise and engrave medallions, ensuring customers are happy with the final product.
WHAT ' S THE MOST CHALLENGING PART OF YOUR JOB?
Sometimes visitors aren’ t totally satisfied with their experience, and while we always aim to go above and beyond, things don’ t always go perfectly. When that happens, we do our best to turn it around so they leave with happy memories of their time at the Mint. I always stay calm and professional in these situations, making sure everyone feels heard while keeping the tour fun and smooth for the rest of the group.
