The Perth Mint 2024 June Bulletin | Page 3

RELEASE DAY 8.30am ( AWST ) Wednesday 5 June 2024
A letter from the Chief Executive Officer
The Perth Mint opened its doors on 20 June 1899 amid a period of massive change in the once sleepy town of Perth .
The city was growing fast , and important new infrastructure and landmark buildings were emerging courtesy of the riches flowing from the Kalgoorlie goldfields .
The Mint , then a branch of Britain ’ s Royal Mint , was established to refine that gold and turn it into sovereigns which were used as circulating currency across the British Empire .
Today , 125 years later , the Mint is a very different operation , but we are essentially still doing the same thing – providing a trusted , reliable and convenient market for the Australian gold industry and turning the gold into value-added product .
Now we operate under the ownership of the Western Australian Government , and our business is built around creating high quality and innovative numismatic coins and precious metal bullion products which are exported to investors and collectors around the world .
As CEO , I ’ m determined that we should have our customers at the centre of everything we do , whether they are the gold miners who deliver their precious metal to us , the investors who buy and sell our bullion , or the all-important collectors of our numismatic coins .
With this in mind , we are always looking for ways to enhance our operations , including more efficient , cleaner and safer processes in our refining and coining operations , and designing and developing new and innovative products that will cement our reputation as one of the world ’ s leading mints .
I am proud of our history and the key role we have played for 125 years supporting the development of our State . I look forward to the Mint continuing to deliver on behalf of the Western Australian community for many years to come .
Paul Graham Chief Executive Officer
