The Perth Mint 2024 July Bulletin | Page 5

Production of traditional sovereigns from Western Australian gold was the lifeblood of The Perth Mint in the years up to 1931 . One hundred and six million pieces were struck , each bearing Benedetto Pistrucci ’ s classical design and a ‘ P ’ mintmark .
Inspired by the original reverse , the modern collectable presents St George ’ s victory over a malevolent dragon in a new light for contemporary collectors . A naked warrior on horseback is seen brandishing a sword above the defiant lizard . Struck from 91.67 % pure gold in proof quality , the image appears within a decorative circle of raised dots , together with the inscription ‘ AUSTRALIA 2024 ’, and a ‘ P125 ’ mintmark .
