With its distinctive wedge-shaped tail , Australia ’ s largest raptor is an icon of our sun-drenched skies . Portrayed on the Wedgetailed Eagle series by leading US coin engraver John M . Mercanti since 2014 , the latest design looks spectacular on this 10th anniversary bi-metal collectable .
The coin features a centrepiece made from ¾oz of 99.99 % pure gold which pictures a wedge-tailed eagle soaring on a background of geometrically-shaped elements suggesting a sunburst . Struck from ¾oz of 99.95 % pure platinum , the outer ring includes the inscription ‘ 10TH ANNIVERSARY ’.
A reminder of the original design , the obverse includes a privy mark depicting a wedge-tailed eagle about to land on the branch of a dead tree .
