The Perth Mint 2024 April Bulletin | Page 3

RELEASE DAY 8:30am ( AWST ) Tuesday 9 April 2024
A letter from the General Manager .
The Perth Mint was decorated with flags to mark its official opening on a wet winter ’ s day in 1899 . Despite the weather , scores of cheering people gathered outside the gates to gain a glimpse of the dignitaries attending the ceremony . They soon made their way to the coining department where following congratulatory speeches , gold coin production would soon get underway .
This year we are privileged to honour the Mint ’ s rich history and achievements , made possible by our pioneering founders and the many skilled people who have contributed to our pursuit of minting excellence over the past 125 years .
We have given a great deal of thought to ways in which we can share our pride in the Mint ’ s history with many dedicated collectors all around the world .
As a result , we are delighted to unveil two superbly crafted pieces featuring a special anniversary design . Drawing inspiration from our signature Australian Kangaroo , Kookaburra , and Koala coins , The Perth Mint ’ s 125th Anniversary Gold and Silver Proofs are beautifully conceived and immaculately crafted .
It is fascinating to think that they were struck in the same coining room as our original 1899 sovereigns . Important additions to the Mint ’ s catalogue of memorable pieces , I hope you enjoy them .
Neil Vance , General Manager - Minted Products
